MAIN CONFERENCE LOCATION: UCI STUDENT CENTER

The 13th WiMSoCal symposium will take place at the UCI student center. Check-in, breakfast and plenary talk(s) will be in Emerald AB on Saturday and in the Pacific Ballroom AB on Sunday. Parallel sessions will run in Crescent Bay rooms on Saturday and in the Woods Cove rooms on Sunday. Please refer to the schedule for more details.

PARKING: STUDENT CENTER PARKING STRUCTURE

Parking is available in the Student Center Parking Structure (SCPS), which is located on the corner of Pereira Drive and W Peltason Drive. Entrance into the Student Center Parking Structure is on Pereira Drive. The address is 311 W Peltason Dr A, Irvine, CA 92697. Please see the campus map for more information. The Student Center Parking Structure is labeled SCPS on the UCI campus map (Grid C5).

During 8am and 11am, an attendant at the Parking Structure kiosk will be distributing parking permits to all the people that have registered on the workshop website and have requested parking. Once you obtain the parking permit, you can choose to park at other parking locations on campus, for example at Anteater Parking structure, which is the closest one to the McDonnel Auditorium (where the movie will be shown on Saturday night). Note: You will not be able to pick up your parking permit at the Anteater Parking structure directly, because there is no personnel there in the weekend. 

The University of California campuses offer reciprocity for faculty and staff parking permits (for up to 5 days a year), so if you are faculty at another UC campus you may be able to use your regular parking permit to park at UCI.  When you arrive at UCI, stop at the Parking Structure kiosk to obtain a permit for UCI at no charge. You will be asked to present a current, valid parking permit from your home campus as well as a current UC ID in order to be eligible for reciprocal parking. Student permits do not have reciprocity.

By funding regulations, we cannot provide parking for local conference attendees (UCI students and faculty). 

DRIVING DIRECTIONS TO THE STUDENT CENTER PARKING STRUCTURE

From the Atrium Hotel

  1. Turn right onto MacArthur Blvd and make a U-turn at Michaelson Dr.
  2. Left on Campus Dr.
  3. Right on West Peltason into UCI.
  4. Left on Pereira Dr. The parking structure will be on the left.

From the 405 South

  1. Exit at Jamboree Rd.
  2. Right on Jamboree Rd.
  3. Left on Campus Dr.
  4. Right on West Peltason into UCI.
  5. Left on Pereira Dr. The parking structure will be on the left.

From the 405 North

  1. Exit at University Dr.
  2. Left on University Dr.
  3. Left on Campus Dr.
  4. Right on East Peltason into UCI.
  5. Let on Pereira Dr. The parking structure will be on the left.

From the 5 South:

  1. Take I-5 South to 55 South.
  2. Merge onto 73 South.
  3. Exit at Bison Ave and turn left.
  4. Right at West Peltason.
  5. Slight right at the stop sign to continue on West Peltason. 
  6. Right on Pereira Dr. The parking structure will be on the left.

 From the 5 North:

  1. Take I-5 North to 405 North.
  2. Exit at University Dr.
  3. Left on University Dr.
  4. Left on Campus Dr.
  5. Right on East Peltason into UCI.
  6. Let on Pereira Dr. The parking structure will be on the left.

From the 73 Tollroad South:

  1. Exit at Bison Ave. (Bison is the LAST FREE EXIT before Toll).
  2. Left on Bison Ave. crossing over the freeway into UCI.
  3. Right at West Peltason.
  4. Slight right at the stop sign to continue on West Peltason. 
  5. Right on Pereira Dr. The parking structure will be on the left.

From the 73 Tollroad North:

  1. Exit at Bison Ave.
  2. Right on Bison Ave into UCI.
  3. Right at West Peltason.
  4. Slight right at the stop sign to continue on West Peltason. 
  5. Right on Pereira Dr. The parking structure will be on the left.

From the 55 South:

  1. Take 55 South to 73 South.
  2. Exit at Bison Ave.
  3. Left on Bison Ave. crossing over the freeway into UCI.
  4. Right at West Peltason.
  5. Slight right at the stop sign to continue on West Peltason. 
  6. Right on Pereira Dr. The parking structure will be on the left.

From the 55 North

  1. Take 55 North to 73 South.
  2. Exit at Bison Ave.
  3. Left on Bison Ave, crossing over the freeway into UCI.
  4. Right at West Peltason.
  5. Slight right at the stop sign to continue on West Peltason. 
  6. Right on Pereira Dr. The parking structure will be on the left.

From the 91/261 Tollway:

  1. Take the 91 West to 241 South.
  2. Merge onto 261 South (portions toll); the 261 becomes Jamboree Road.
  3. Take a Left on Campus Drive.
  4. Right on West Peltason into UCI.
  5. Left on Pereira Dr. The parking structure will be on the left.

TRANSPORTATION TO THE BEACH

On Saturday afternoon we will visit the Crystal Cove State Park, for a stroll on the beach.  Transportation will be provided. A bus will depart from the front of the student center, by Pereira Dr, at 4:00 pm, and bring people to the beach. The same bus will take people back to campus (to the dinner location).  Everybody is encouraged to ride the bus to avoid having to pay $15 at the entrance of the park. Should you choose to drive to the beach, plan to meet the rest of the conference participants at Beachcomber Cafe on 15 Crystal Cove, Newport Coast, CA 92657. 

SATURDAY NIGHT DINNER: CONTINUING EDUCATION

Saturday night dinner will take place in the Yosemite Room in the Division of Continuing Education Building 1.

If you are coming from the beach, you will take a bus back to campus. The bus will depart from the Crystal Cove State Park (by the Beachcomber Cafe) about an hour after the drop off time and will drop everyone off near the Yosemite Room in the Division of Continuing Education Building 1. If you are planning to drive back from the beach, instead of taking the bus, you will meet us directly at the dinner location.

SATURDAY NIGHT MOVIE: MCDONNELL DOUGLAS AUDITORIUM

After dinner, there will be a special screening of Secrets of the Surface: The Mathematical Vision of Maryam Mirzakhani with documentary creator George Csicsery. The showing will take place at the McDonnell Douglas Auditorium at 8m. Prior to the show, there will be a mathematical introduction by Prof. Jesse Wolfson, and a small reception with wine and desserts. After the movie, we will have a Q&A session with documentary creator George Csicsery. The event will be over by 10pm. At that point, you will probably want to walk back to the Student Center parking structure, following the map below.
