His\u00a0research interests are focused on better understanding and explaining ongoing changes in the Cryosphere, as well as reducing uncertainties in the ice sheet contribution to sea level rise using numerical modeling.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mathieu graduated from Ecole Centrale Paris in 2008, with a major in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, and received a PhD in 2011 from the same university, in partnership with the <a title=\"JPL\" href=\"http:\/\/jpl.nasa.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory<\/a> on <em>&#8220;Ice sheet properties inferred by combining numerical modeling and remote sensing data&#8221;<\/em>. He is one of the founders and core developers of the\u00a0<a title=\"Ice Sheet System Model\" href=\"http:\/\/issm.jpl.nasa.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">JPL\/UCI Ice Sheet System Model<\/a>, a new generation, high-resolution, higher-order physics Ice Sheet Model.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In 2011, Mathieu received a NASA Group Achievement Award for <em>\u201coutstanding accomplishment in the development of the Ice Sheet System Model that models and simulates ice sheet systems flowing and melting in our warming environment\u201d<\/em>. Mathieu also received the 2014 NASA\u00a0Cryospheric Sciences Most Valuable Player award for <em>\u201coutstanding work improving our knowledge of the Greenland ice sheet and underlying bed\u201d<\/em>. In April 2015, Mathieu was awarded the\u00a0International Association of Cryospheric Sciences (IACS) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cryosphericsciences.org\/pastIacsEcsp.html#morlighem\">2015 Early Career Scientist Prize<\/a>.
