The major is an interdisciplinary field of study that combines oceanography, atmospheric science, meteorology, geography, geology, hydrology, and environmental science.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--nextpage-->\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\">Predictions: Geography <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-heading\">Predicting Area<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>To understand the Earth, you need to know its geography.  In Meeting 4, we learned how to make some rough predictions.  Let&#8217;s see if we can estimate how big the Earth is. To begin, let&#8217;s first look at the land area of the U.S., relative to that of California.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.ps.uci.edu\/mathceo\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2020\/05\/California-location-map.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2069\" width=\"610\" height=\"427\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:33px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background has-subtle-background-background-color\"><strong>Question 1:<\/strong> Estimate how many <span style=\"color:#ea1014\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Californias <\/span>will fit inside the area of the entire United States. <br><em>Approximate to the nearest whole number.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:38px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Points Assignment:<\/strong> If your answer is over the correct answer, you get 0 points. If your answer is less or equal to the correct answer, your answer will be number of points you earn. For example, if the correct answer is 10 and you guessed 12, you get 0 points. But if you guess 7, then you get 7 points. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We will take an average of all your team member guesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--nextpage-->\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background has-subtle-background-background-color\"><strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.census.gov\/quickfacts\/fact\/table\/CA,US\/PST045219\" target=\"_blank\">Answer to Question 1:<\/a><\/strong>  <strong>22<\/strong>.  The land area of United States is 3,531,905 square miles.  The land area of California is 155,779 square miles.  The ratio rounded down to the nearest whole number is <strong>22<\/strong>.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:52px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background has-subtle-background-background-color\"><strong>Question 2:<\/strong> Estimate how many Californias will fit inside the surface of the entire Earth, including all land mass and oceans?
