This major, or area of study, will teach you how living organisms may change over time, and how they interact with each other and their environment. It is a broad subject that includes genetics, evolutionary biology, ecology, and physiology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--nextpage-->\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\">Population Growth<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>For a living organism to survive, it has to reproduce and grow its population. We can record the population of an animal species at regular intervals, and this would result in a number sequence. We saw various types of number sequences in Meeting 2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Fibonacci Sequence<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:17% auto\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.ps.uci.edu\/mathceo\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2020\/05\/fibonacci.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2114\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\">Fibonacci (born Leonardo Bonacci), an Italian mathematcian from Pisa, is acclaimed for popularizing to the Western World the Arabic number system (1, 2, 3, 4, &#8230;) that we use today. In his book, <em>Liber Abaci (Book of Calculation)<\/em>, he investigated the breeding patterns of rabbits and described the famous number sequence that bears his name.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.ps.uci.edu\/mathceo\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2020\/05\/images.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2115\" width=\"642\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption>Pairs of Rabbits: 1, then 1, then 2, then 3, etc. (Source: mathigon.org.)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background has-subtle-background-background-color\"><strong>Question 1:  The first six numbers of the Fibonacci sequence are: <span class=\"has-inline-color has-accent-color\">1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8.<\/span><\/strong><br><strong>Take turns within your team to give the next 10 numbers in the sequence.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Use this activity&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheets\/d\/1Eo0Uzid9Lgptz2t8vbn2m-9znoKAS7XLFtpYLxWNdMQ\/edit?usp=sharing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Google Sheet<\/a> to record the answers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Points Assignment:<\/strong> For each number obtained correctly, the team earns 1 point.
