IRMS

The KCCAMS facility operates an isotope ratio mass spectrometer (IRMS, DeltaPlus, Thermo Scientific) for the analysis of carbon and nitrogen stable isotope ratios (δ13C, δ15N). These data can provide information about the cycling of carbon and nitrogen in the environment and, or the sources of carbon and nitrogen in a sample.

The instrument accepts (a) gaseous samples in the form of CO2 in helium for the analysis of δ13C via a Gas Bench II (Thermo Scientific) and (b) organic solids via an elemental analyzer (EA, Fisons NA 1500 NC) for the analysis of δ13C and δ15N and carbon and nitrogen concentrations.
